Model & Visualize the Service production Cost of IT

Put your data to use

Steer IT like it's 2024.

Muninex is a solution that lets you combine cost and operational data in order to create new views and insights.

Allocate your IT spend from service to service using your service catalog as the common denominator. Improve visibility into IT cost and ease discussions between the business, finance and IT.

Calculate data-driven business allocations using activity-based costing, rather than treating IT as overhead cost.

Service-Oriented TCO

Application Service: Incurred cost

Incurred cost is the cost directly attributed to this service from our book keeping, plus cost assigned to us from other services in our model.

Our example service receives cost from the following sources:

  • € 1.13M of License cost
  • € 500k of Professional Services cost
  • € 400k of Labor (Developers) cost
  • € 360k of Support Agreement cost
  • € 210k of Labor (Operations) cost

Application Service: TCO

Service Total Cost of Ownership is the sum of direct and indirect cost for our service, in our case:

€ 2.60M

We will aim at distributing this service cost either to business consumers or to other services that utilize us.

Application Service: Distribution

Distributed cost is the cost that we assign out from our service, to consumers of the service – either business consumers or other services we produce.

Our example service distributes cost to the following receivers:

  • € 500k to Business Unit A
  • € 250k to Business Unit B
  • € 150k to Business Unit C
  • € 1.70M Unallocated Cost for which we have no identified consumer yet

After Service A has distributed to Service B, which has distributed to Service C, and so on – we get a comprehensive view on the cost flowing through the value chain of our IT production landscape.

Unit cost is the cost per unit for a Service: The TCO, divided by number of app users, or number of servers, or similar. Identifying your unit cost enables you to identify resource slack, and compare with your peers and potential service providers.

Unit Economics for IT

Get out in front of your unit cost – before it gets in front of your CFO.

What's in a name?

Muninex is named after Hugin and Munin from old Norse mythology. They are the two ravens of Odin. He sends them out every day, and they fly all over the world to collect information on his behalf.

Hugin can roughly be translated into "Thought", and Munin roughly into "Memory". We'd love for you to use Muninex as a supplementary mind for your organization.
